It has been my experience that the bearing block is the toughest component of the bow drill set to get right. Friction must take place on the hearth, not the bearing block! Friction on both ends of the spindle is bad because it bogs down the bowing process. What we want is all the friction to happen on the hearth and as little as possible to happen in the BB.
