How I make a cooking fire....

In these photos from this morning, I made what my grandpa would call a proper cooking fire....I used seasoned apple wood.
I make my fire to the rear of the actual cooking area. (the metal stand is cooking area.)

when the initial fire has burned down to a nice set of coals, I move most of them forward....to cooking area...some are left back to keep making new coalswood is added there.
